Empire! Empire! (I was a Lonely Estate) - What it Takes to Move Forward
Band: Empire! Empire! (I was a Lonely Estate)
Album: What it Takes to Move Forward
Year: 2009
FFO: Mineral, Sunny Day Real Estate
Genre: Emo
I first heard this band while listening to a Mineral station on Last.Fm. I don't typically listen to bands with "higher" vocals, so at first I was very indifferent about them. I checked them out later and the vocals quickly grew on me. I can't express the feeling this band gives me. It's almost of mixture of sadness and relaxation. Odd, I know but give it a listen, tell me what it does for you!

Fischer - 7 Songs
Band: Fischer
Album: 7 Songs
Year: ?
FFO: Daylight, Castevets
Genre: Emo, Rock
My friend who was sleeping on my couch for a while showed me a Fischer/Ghostlimb split. I was interested because I liked Ghostlimb and figured I should give it a listen. I instantly loved the sound. It reminds me of the whole 2000's emo but more upbeat, with more yelling vocals. I downloaded this album later, and I've been listening to it quite often. check it out.

I Have Dreams - Three Days 'Til Christmas
Band: I Have Dreams
Album: Three Days 'Til Christmas
Year: 1999
FFO: Spirit of Versailles, Toru Okada
Genre: Skramz, depressing
I Have Dreams might be one of the most lyrically depressing bands I've ever heard. The band formed from the ashes of their old band New Ethic, when guitarist and best friend of the band Daniel died in a car accident. They formed I have dreams to, and I quote "an attempt to cope with the pain everyone was feeling after Daniel’s death." I'm pretty sure this is the only record they made. Listen to it and cry.

I Hate Myself - Discography
Band: I Hate Myself
Album: Discography
Year: 1996 - 2003
FFO: Twelve Hour Turn, Strikeforce Diablo
Genre: Emo, Screamo
I know I already posted their 10 song full length, but I've been on the biggest I Hate Myself kick lately, and I felt the need to post all their stuff into one post. This has both their split with Twelve Hour Turn, and Strikeforce Diablo, their 4 song ep, their 10 song LP, and their final 7", including a live version of Darren's Roof. This band is easily one of my favorite bands from the 90's, and possibly one of my favorite bands of all time. To sum up how sad this band really is, here's a quote that sums up their name "The band got their name from going through and experiencing depression."

Close to Me/Adaje Split
Band(s): Close to Me/Adaje
Album: Split
Year: 2009
FFO: Daitro, The Kodan Armada
Genre: Screamo
This is a split from two Memphis, TN bands. Close to Me starts off the first side of the split, playing emotional, slower music in vein of Daitro and Adorno. Adaje gaining influence from bands such as orchid, The Kodan Armada, and Raein, finish up the split with three songs of their own. While both bands recordings aren't the best, I recommend this split highly. Not because one of the bands is my band, but because both bands put a lot into writing, recording, and hand making these.

Daylight - Sinking
Band: Daylight
Album: Sinking
Year: 2009
FFO: Tigers jaw, Balance and Composure
Genre: Emo, Punk Rock
Daylight is a pretty new band. This is their first release, released by Get This Right Records. If you're into the new wave of emo-ish hardcore-ish rock-ish stuff being released, this release is for you. They have another record out right now called "dispirit". If you like this, then I recommend you grab that as well.

Innards - Summer Demo
Band: Innards
Album: Summer Demo
Year: 2010
FFO: La Quiete, Orchid
Genre: Skramz, punkXrock
Innards in my opinion is one of the best bands creating music right now. Featuring ex members of jubilee and z-wounds, this set of four (five at the time of this demo) guys pump out six songs on their summer demo tape. My band played with them on tour and they didn't have their bassist (he was attending the Bonnaroo Festival, which is gay and full of hippies) but they still put on an amazing show. A month later they played in my hometown with a full line up and it blew the previous show away. I bought the demo and I still listen to it almost every day. Download this and let your brain melt.

Yaphet Kotto - Syncopated Synthetic Laments for Love
Band: Yaphet Kotto
Album: Syncopated Synthetic Laments for Love
Year: 2001
FFO: Neil Perry, Daitro
Genre: Screamo/emo
Yaphet Kotto was the first screamo band I really got into. Few years later, I still listen to them constantly and this release has my favorite song on it (which is what I named this blog after). Basically if you like 90's emo but want a little heavier aspect, then this is perfect.

Mineral - End Serenading
Band: Mineral
Album: End Serenading
Year: 1999
FFO: Texas is the Reason, The Promise Ring
Genre: Midwest Emo, Indie
Mineral is one of the best emo bands to come out of the late 90's in my, and a lot of other peoples opinions. End Serenading is pretty much a perfect album from start to finish. They put a split out with Jimmy Eat World, which makes them rule even more. Balance and Composure ripped off this album cover and made a shirt. They're gay for that.

Cross My Heart - S/T EP
Band: Cross My Heart
Album: S/T EP
Year:1999
FFO: Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Day Real Estate
Genre: Emo, Rock
Cross my Heart started in 1997 out of Baltimore, MD. They feature members of Dead Read Sea, Midnight Revival. Their Style of emo was more rock and roll-ish at times. They remind me of SDRE a lot. This EP rules and is my favorite release by them.

Algernon Cadwallader - Fun
Band: Algernon Cadwallader
Album: Fun
Year:2009
FFO: Snowing, Street Smart Cyclist
Genre: Emo/Indie
Originally when I first heard Algernon Cadwallader's "Fun" EP, I couldn't stop listening to the song Spit Fountain. Then, I couldn't stop listening to the entire EP. Now I just love everything the band has put out, but I still like this release the best. His voice annoys some people, but I love it. Download it!

I Hate Myself - Ten Songs
Band: I Hate Myself
Album: Ten Songs
Year: 1997
FFO: Die Hoffnung, Braid, Twelve Hour Turn
Genre: Emo/Screamo
I Hate Myself was a band from Florida in the late 90's. They "poked fun" at other emo/screamo bands from the 90's at that time with their song titles, and the name of the band itself. Nonetheless I Hate Myself is probably in my top ten favorite bands of all time, and this album is in my top five favorite albums of all time.

Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary
Band: Sunny Day Real Estate
Album: Diary
Year: 1994
FFO: Benton Falls, Mineral
Genre: Emo
I can't begin to explain how this band changed my perspective on "emo" music. I was originally your typical 17 year old kid who when asked what emo was, would reply with "kids who shop at hot topic and like Hawthorne heights". As I look back on my ignorant statements, I realize only how far from the truth I was. I found this band through some friends, I heard their name often. Listening to the song "In Circles" I was instantly hooked. Listen to this and endure the same fate I did.
